Deliverance

Loss—Brion experienced significant losses at the beginning of this book. Have you ever experienced loss in your life? What did you find was the most effective way to deal with it?

Family—Weyland and Rosland made sacrifices for their family. Brion made sacrifices for his family. What sacrifices would you be willing to make to preserve your family?

Adoption—Is it possible for adopted children and parents to have the same level of love and affection that biological parents and children have for one another? Why or why not? What is the true nature of family? Is it only biological?

Validity of violence—When, if ever, is violence a legitimate behavior? Is violence ever a valid response to evil? If so, when? If not, why?

Learning new skills—Have you ever experienced difficulties when learning a new task? Why was it so important that Brion train to be a warrior? How do you know when you are ready to put your knowledge to the test?

Survival/Preparation for an Adventure—Have you ever been faced with a situation where failure could be catastrophic? If so, how did you face your fear? If not, was there a time when you recognized the need for knowledge you didn’t have?

Mentors—Brion finds mentors that help him to survive. Who has been a mentor to you and in what capacity? How did Redmond and Neahl complement each other in their approaches to mentoring?
